our favorite night of the year

After hugging, snuggling, talking and laughing on our arrival at home in SC, my family headed to the church we grew up in and my parents still are active members at, and went to a Beautiful Candlelight service that Lux slept through.
It was perfect, although, i did try to keep the candle away from sleeping babe on my lap and in doing so, had hot wax drip onto my leg and through my jeans. yeow!
It's always fun to go home to my church and see everyone that we've grown up with, not to mention, get to sit next to my husband in church! And since Lux was sleeping, I got to participate in the service. It was a great way to just stop and remember why we celebrate the birth of Christ.

We have the tradition of looking for those houses that looks like Christmas threw up on the front lawn (quote that my sister-in-love and husband always say;)) and we found a street with some fabulous lights. Bright colorful lights, cardboard figures, santas, reindeer, nativity scenes...everything was on these lawns.
And in our car, it's rarely silent, so we're usually cracking up or talking loudly about one thing or another. It's so fun.
However, in the midst of all the fun, Lux decided that after three days of traveling, she did not think she should still be strapped into a carseat, so she let us know by wailing all the way home.
It was fun while it lasted. :)
First night staying at my house, and this girl got bathed, in her fun Christmas jammies, and snuggled everyone as they said goodnight. We always have our Christmas celebration at midnight on Christmas Eve, so while Lux headed to bed, we enjoyed some muddy buddies, and candied pecans, some of our family's favorites.

The hours leading up to midnight are always so much fun.
There's so much excitement in the air, everyone is busy bustling around, dancing in the kitchen, cooking, playing, singing, and laughter is a constant in this home...i love how it's never still with my family.
I was under the weather and sick while all this was going on, so I fell asleep on the couch while the rest of the family took pictures of me. I won't be posting those though.

Christmas dinner happens at 10pm and consists of juicy ham, roasted chicken (cuz our family doesn't really like turkey), green bean casserole, mac and cheese, fried rice, stuffing, and rolls...we always make plenty of leftovers because we eat it all day on Christmas day!

Daddy let Ryan read the Christmas story from Luke this year and he closed in prayer.

After that, we hurry and clean up all the dishes and the table, whip out our video cameras and cameras, and take our pics before opening presents.

our sister pic!
my parents.
 love them.
my boys.
missing Lux cuz she was asleep:(
but she heard all the commotion and decided to wake up and join us!:)
She got to be a part of our midnight merriness!:)
Of course, this year, many of the presents were directed Lux's way.
She was amazed with all that was going on.
I think she was still processing her very loud happy family:)
My parents got her her very first American Girl doll.
This bitty baby looked JUST LIKE HER.
and lux thought this doll was a real baby.
and proceeded to talk to her, kiss her, and smack her on the head a couple times.
ya know, just like a real baby. lol.
it never gets old opening presents.
I still get giddy and excited when it's time to open presents at Christmas.
I think we all do.
My parents seem to have a gift in knowing what we want for Christmas, even without us saying a thing about it.
So it's always so fun, finding out that they picked exactly what we wanted without saying a thing.
My sisters and I just feel like little kids again and get so excited.
It's just so so fun.

And after we've ripped open all the presents, done our squealing, given our hugs all around, recorded silly videos of us during the gift opening, we clean up the living room, clear it up, drag our mattresses, blankets, and pillows out to the living room, and camp out as a family.
We fall asleep with just the lights from the tree twinkling and the tv playing the Home Alone movies..which is the ONLY time of the year we allow ourselves to watch it. Otherwise, it's locked away all year long until Christmas Eve:)

on Christmas morning, we all wake up, and lounge in our pajamas all day long, play and test out our new "toys", and eat leftovers, while watching whatever Home Alone movies we hadn't finished, along with Jingle All the Way, The Grinch, and the Santa Clause.

Lux LOVES her new doll.
There was a bunch of this going on too.
Snuggling, napping, and picture taking.

She and daddy were helping set up one of Lolo's Christmas gifts and she fell asleep on daddy.
and Lola and her did ALOT of snuggling on Christmas and napped together.
Well, that was our Christmas eve/Christmas folks.
It's my favorite day of the year.
My sisters and I always talk about how we feel like kids again whenever we come home.
Mom and Daddy just do that to us.
We love the traditions that they started with our family...and it's really fun to share those traditions with our own families now.
It's always sad when Christmas day is over,
and then to prolong the day, my sisters and I sleep one more night in the living room (this year watching Ashley's new 1D movie and squealing and jumping on the mattress while singing the songs).

*Sigh*
I love Christmas.
I love my family.
I can't wait til we get to do this all over again.

traveling cross country with a 6 month old and a dog that gets car sick

Right after the Christmas eve service, we headed straight out of town to South Carolina.
we took a detour to Atlanta, GA to pick up my sister, so altogether it made it a three day drive home to my family for Christmas.
I was DREADING this travel, because our experience on an 8 hour drive to Kansas at thanksgiving was NOT good.

But somehow, Lux decided she was past all the screaming and crying and was absolutely wonderful for the three day drive! We couldn't believe it.
We think it had to do with her being more interactive and understanding more, so anytime we thought she was getting close to being fussy, we talked to her and played and sang with her and it kept everyone in the car happy.
that being said, we were all thrilled to get to Saint Louis for the night.
Lux had just learned to army crawl a couple days before, so she was anxious to get some practice at her new skills.
she and i shared a bed that night and she practiced her new skills all night long.
I spent the whole night pulling her away from the edge of the bed.
the next day was a ten hour drive to Atlanta, but we were so excited to be there and get to visit with Ilene's in laws.
We stayed there overnight and Lux enjoyed some hang out time with Miss Margaret.
They played together and explored her amazing Christmas village collection that lit up and had moving pieces and everything!
They played together all evening and morning while we were there.

Lux got to see her one and only Uncle for a little bit during that stay in Atlanta.
Aren't they cute?
It was Christmas Eve and we were 5 hours away from being home!
Ilene road tripped the rest of the trip to SC with us.
Her hubby, Ryan, couldn't make it cuz of yucky work stuff, but he was so gracious and sweet to send Ilene to celebrate Lux's first Christmas with us.
We're so thankful she got to join us! but we missed having him with the family.
Our homecoming was absolutely WONDERFUL.
There's nothing better than finally stepping in warm South Carolina where trees are green and jackets or coats are needed.
Lux didn't even wear pants getting out of the car.
How's that for grand?

It's completely melts my heart when I see my girl with my family.
Her Lolo and Lola rushed out towards the car when we drove up and practically forgot to say hello to the rest of us.
They made a beeline for Lux and scooped her into their arms, not to waste a second of time with their one grandchild.
I was so proud.
Both to hand my parents my baby, but also, that my baby would get to spend time with my incredible parents and sisters.
My mom, Lux's Lola, has the greatest expressions of joy when she sees Lux.
It's always so exciting.
Lux was 8 weeks old the last time they saw her...it was a world of difference.
Here she developed an instant attachment to her Lolo, my dad.
hahahahah, this pic makes me laugh every time.
Lux had an instant something with her Auntie Ash too;)
just kidding, she got over it quickly and adored her aunties.
There's something about bringing the three of us together that's just RIGHT.
God totally made sisters to be built in best friends...it's the coolest.
Lux got comfortable right away with the family and snuggled with Lola and Lolo all afternoon.
These two had many conversations as Lux snuggled with her Lolo.
They talked about the news, and sports, and biking, and what she wanted for Christmas.

Our family's Christmas festivities starts on Christmas Eve and it's still one of the most fun and favorite days to me.
I love what we do and how we do it.
I was so excited that Lux and Ryan got to be a part of it.
We haven't been able to join my family for Christmas Eve for 4 years, so it was so special getting to do all our traditions with them this year.

I warned you, there would be a lot from the past month.
I'm gonna head to bed but continue again soon!

O come all ye faithful...

Since my laptop was out of commission after I got back from two weeks in SC, and just recently started working after my hubby wiped it clean, I'm playing catch up with Christmas posts...and there are a lot coming.

First though, Christmas Sunday.
Lux played baby Jesus in a sweet nativity scene with some of the kids and teenagers from church.
It brought many tears to our congregations as it displayed the work that God is truly doing in our church as we've witnessed the past few years.
We heard many were blessed just by seeing these kids display the marvelous miracle of Jesus coming as a baby to earth and were overjoyed by it.
It was really really neat.

Lux has a special thing for Noah, so he was asked to play Joseph.
Worked out well, because when they stepped out and Lux noticed all that was going on, her lips puckered and it looked like she was gonna wail...but Noah had her, and she saw her daddy and i dancing and waving in front of her to get her to smile, and she pulled it together and made it through the song.
and of course, we've got those that traveled from afar to deliver gifts and worship.
our shepherds and wisemen.;)

Oh and here's our girl as she waited in the back for her big job.
She had decided to take an unusually long nap right before, and then exploded her diaper...needless to say, she was all ready when it was time for her to go out!:)

O come all ye Faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
o come ye, o come ye to Bethlehem
Come and Behold Him,
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him,
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
